#Birthday Letter
#Happy Two

It's not everyday one celebrates one's birthday. And it's not everyday that birthday happens to be of the greatest gifts itself. A gift, in the form of a gentle, demure woman who exudes compassion; who's words spell magic in our hearts and soul; who's demeanour manifests warmth and love for one and all......

Dear Sunandini,

Unwittingly and very fortunately, you've become an integral part of this significant change called Life. We come across hundreds of people every year but not many leave a lasting impression on the crowd. Slowly and steadily we've grown an year together and let me say this outright, it has been a beautiful ride so far.
You've been i...

When you're searching for meaningful poetry, you may come across a variety of admirable pieces; and out of that lot, there are some poems that are written with such grace that you can't help but feel touched by them....
I came across this one in particular many years ago while surfing online.

Today, I just felt like sharing this beautiful piece with the world. On this special occasion of Valentines, may this poem help spread the spirit of love all around!!

Red roses were her favorites, her name was also Rose.
And every year her husband sent them, tied with pretty bows.

The year he died, the roses were delivered to her door.
The card said, "Be my Va...

‎'There are dreamers and there are realists in this world, you think the dreamers would find the dreamers and the realists would find the realists, but more often than not the opposite is true. See the dreamers need the realists to keep the dreamers from soaring too close to the sun. And the realists? Well without the dreamers, they might not ever get off the ground... '

People of Letters Challenge 2.

Thank you Sashi and Shazia for nominating me for this challenge.

Here's my first frugal attempt at it ;)

"What words mean to me"

"A powerful drug,
my thoughts undone,
a careless bout,
and stories begun.
some be callous,
some be kind,
words are simply, random
perceptions of our mind."

Thank You.

To continue with this challenge I hereby nominate anyone reading this letter who haven't already participated.

The great thing about getting older is that you get a chance to tell the people in your life what they mean to you....

“Birth”, a very noble, memorable moment of life. And if one is remembered on that day by loved ones, it is the best thing that can happen on that day each year. A special day celebrated with special people and remembered by some other special people, is something that anyone would dream of.

As I celebrate my birthday today, I would like to take a moment to appreciate the beautiful people I have come across through this app; who have shared their wonderful journeys and their loving memories with me; who have listened to me patiently and have appreciated me every now ...

Perhaps the greatest discovery of a man lies in knowing himself....

When you take a moment to look outside the window, you see people milling about in the streets, going about their businesses; oblivious.

When you take a moment to look at some old pictures, you see faces smiling at the camera, posing a happy memory for decades to come; blissful.

When you take a moment to reflect upon your own life, you see things going haywire, like pieces of jigsaw puzzle spread beyond your own reach; benighted.

So when you look at another 'intimidating' person, why do you choose to let your mind fool you into believing they are any different? When you look at another person, you should actually see a ...

Dear Hardeep,

I wish you a very happy new year! :)

You are one beautiful soul I know on Lettrs. I say this because of your words that you write to express and the words you write to motivate. You have truly motivated me to write. Thank you so much for your constant support.  I now know that what ever I write, Hardeep will always impress/comment.

We haven't spoken earlier and I would love to know you.

   Another glorious year passed by...
As always, we take this time to look back at the year behind us and the year ahead, with great anticipation as to what will come. We carry the lessons of the past with us and look confidently forward, as we always do.
2014 was an eventful year, witnessing both excellence and tragedies. While we revel upon our achievements as a nation with the onset of a new democratic leadership that was most awaited upon, our hearts still bleed the blood of the innocents who have laid their lives for the inane political wars. Planes went missing, calamities took their toll, politicians and sportsmen retired, and celebrities stepped up as global peace ambassad...

So I've been thinking a lot lately about what I've been doing with my life and it got me thinking further that I really haven't done a great deal of things I should have done by now!

I mean, by 26, most people have their life figured in the direction they want their life to be in....
by 26, most people have had a positive tryst with love....
and by 26, most people have found a reason in their life to continue for another, say 26 years or maybe even more....

So it got me thinking, what do I really have to look back to?

What if I continue living like this and wait for life to give me more lemons...
I have been doing that till now, and I've survived!
Heck, I even make good money...

"Makke gayon gal mukdi naahi
Sau sau Hajj kar aaiye
Ganga gayon gal mukdi naahi
Sau sau gotay khaaiye
Bulleh shah gal taaiyon mukdi
Bulleh shah gal taaiyon mukdi
"Main" nu dilon ganwaaiye!"

Going to Mecca is not the ultimate
Even if hundreds of Hajj pilgrimage are done
Going to river Ganges is not the ultimate
Even if hundreds of ablutions (dives) are done
O Bulleh Shah the ultimate is
When the "I" is removed from the heart!

"Chal Bulleya chal othe chalye jithe sare anne
Chal Bulleya chal othe chalye jithe sare anne
Na koi saadi zaat pachhaane
Na koi saadi zaat pachhaane
Na koi saanu manne
Chal chal bulleya... Chal othay chalye..

Speeches won't be made today,
Clocks will carry on,
Flowers won't be left in parks,
Work will still be done,
People won't be dressed in black,
Babies will be born,
No flags will fly,
The sun will rise,
But we know that you are gone....

2 years on... there is still no change to the way we are. I wonder, why did we ever set our hopes so high in the first place?
Or maybe we've decided on a method that won't give us a desirable outcome at all.
Isn't it pertinent that our laws should be more open to reforms and should welcome a change in the way
it functions? People with a damaged mindset seldom are afraid of death and awarding them with life sentences doesn't necessarily destroy the sin.

The first time I watched this movie, 'Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind', I had a million questions in my head. I wasn't familiar with Alexander Pope's poem "Eloise to Abelard". So I got down to read more about his work.

Eloise, after being banished by her uncle and sent to live amongst nuns, writes this piece as she envies the women around her, who became nuns by choice.
The movie is basically based on the essence of the following verse from the poem:

How happy is the blameless vestal’s lot!
The world forgetting, by the world forgot.
Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind!
Each pray’r accepted, and each wish resign’d...

How happy is the blameless (innocent), ...

Dear Lettrs Team,

I would like to take moment to thank you for your continued effort to keep this app user friendly. I have witnessed so many improvements and changes since I joined a few months ago and I enjoy using this app even more with every update.

Your constant endeavor of surprising users with new weekly themes is simply blissful. I would like to thank the designing team for selecting beautiful layouts every week and every season!

A few weeks ago we also witnessed a major update for android that introduced filters in the way we explored lettrs in the app. I remember requesting for such a feature and very soon I saw that being implemented, which was really really impressive.

We often find ourselves at crossroads with ourselves, not knowing where to head, not knowing where to begin.
It's times like these that we stop and begin wondering about our choices. I often find myself in need of inspiration to keep me going and this brilliant poem really keeps me going..... His words make all the difference at that moment. Read him aloud, listen his audio tape and you'll feel the difference!!

Let me take a moment to present his beautiful creation for you:

'Instructions For A Bad Day'

There will be bad days.
Be calm.
Loosen your grip, opening each palm slowly now.
Let go.
Be confident.
Know that now is only a moment, and that if today is as bad as it gets, understand t...

            A Lover's Plea

I don't want you to remember me,
It hurts to know you still care
I never kept up to my words,
I was a complete despair.

I don't want you to love me,
It hurts me when you do
I never understood your feelings,
I just was unable to.

I don't want you to cry for me,
It hurts to see your sodden eyes
I am unworthy of your love,
My truths were nothing but lies.

I don't want you to stand by me,
It hurts to see you sacrifice
I shall be indebted for forgiveness,
I didn't deserve your gratifies.

I don't want you to trust me,
It hurts to see you drew
I was so blinded by greed,
I even mortgaged you.

I don't want you to live for me,
It hurts to see you die
I can ...

There are over millions of songs written and sung today covering varied genres. As much as it involves a tremendous effort to compose a song and then finally release it for the rest of the world, so many beautiful songs go unnoticed everyday....
The world moves on, spinning its life away...
But once every while, it's good to appreciate a creation that actually touches your heart!!!

Today, I'd like to mention this song that has been in my head for so long and I can't help but feel so attached to the artist every time I listen to it... I feel her voice, as if she is singing right in front of me; her passion, as if she is singing to let the world hear her concern!!!

Okay... Book time!!!

I have chosen to take up a phrase from The Alchemist today and put forth an open question!!

"Everyone believes the world's greatest lie.." says the mysterious old.
"What's the world's greatest lie?" the little boy asks.
The old man replies, "It's this: that at a certain point in our lives, we lose control of what's happening to us, and our lives become controlled by fate. That's the world greatest lie."

So the question that's bothering me is..
"Does the author imply that our lives aren't controlled by fate to begin with and we're not being governed by our actions since birth?"
Without going against the basic theme of this brilliant book, I find this context very ironi...

To all the readers,

I have been reading an increasing number of 'broken hearted' lettrs lately and I just wanted to say that,

Have faith in yourself. Most of what you see and feel in ONLY in you. It may not mean the same to someone you admire or vice versa. One shouldn't really start embracing darkness just because the light at the end of the tunnel seems a little far away...
Allow yourself as many chances as possible, its gotta work out for you somehow; maybe not with somebody you thought you liked!!!!

So before allowing your heart to fall into the abyss of misery, give a clear thought to what you really sought and why you didn't get it....

In the words of Paulo Coelho,
"In love, no on...

"I’ve come to the conclusion that if having things turn out the way you wanted them to is a measure of a successful life, then some would say I’m a failure. The important thing is not to be bitter over life’s disappointments. Learn to let go of the past. And recognize that every day won’t be sunny, and when you find yourself lost in the darkness and despair, remember it’s only in the black of night you see the stars. And those stars will lead you back home. So don’t be afraid to make mistakes, to stumble and fall, cause most of the time, the greatest rewards come from doing the things that scare you the most. Maybe you’ll get everything you wish for. Maybe you’ll get more t...

"And that's how it goes, kids. The friends, neighbors, drinking buddies, and partners-in-crime you loved so much when you're young - as the years go by, you just lose touch... You will be shocked, when you discover how easy it is in life to part ways with people forever. That's why when you find someone you want to keep around, you do something about it..... "

Dear Reader,

A few days back, I got this beautiful letter from a very humble lady, asking me if I could be her pen pal.
I obliged, and since then, I have had some great, meaningful conversations with a stranger.

Somehow, talking to strangers let's you in on perspectives you never really could see for yourself.
We talk about everything life has shown us in its diminutive span.
Positiveness seems her reflection, happiness her charm.

She has an amazing insight on this world, its being and herself. Her thoughts would wander to the farthest corners of Earth, only to come back with wonderful answers...

May I introduce you to Radhika (PO# 153118), a charming person who is so much fun to talk to....

"And who you are", the proud man said,
"That I must bow so low?
Only a man of a different coat,
That's all the truth I know."

"Look beyond", the white Lord said,
"There's more to me than my coat,
For you shall see a man so free,
Waiting to set afloat..."

And so he saw, beyond His coat,
A white light appear.
He saw himself drift all the way,
And found himself aware.

"Look within", the lord said
"And the coat shall disappear......"

Mired by Life's Melodrama

Strange are the times
when things don't seem
what they ought to be,
Strange are the moments
when people pretend
what they were never meant to be.

How busy a man can get
that he becomes oblivious
to the wails and cries of a broken heart,
How busy a man can get
that he painlessly watches
his own life fall apart.

How ignorant can a guy be
when the lament of a girl
doesn't seem to make any difference,
How ignorant can a guy be
when he takes her love and affection
for flamboyance and shrewdness.

In the dark, gloomy corner of a house
A man sits in misery,
The life he had lived flashes before his eyes,
"please, give me
another chance", he whines in agony.

The pam...
