A gallery once hosted a painting exhibition of a renowned abstract art painter who had earned millions from his art. The gallery was, as usual, thronged by several people - some were art enthusiasts while others were merely onlookers. A child who came over to the exhibition expecting an art treat, though, was not amused.
Child: Sir (calling over the artist behind the popular pieces)! Please can you come over here once?
Child: These paintings are weird and do not depict any particular shape or object but still why are people glued on to them?
Painter had a hearty laugh!
Painter: Good observation, my child. True, the paintings do not depict anything particular and are...
There used to be a gardener who was asked to take care of a garden full of roses. He was thrilled to take up the job as roses are beautiful to look at and are pleasant fragrance-wise. As soon as he took up the job of taking care of the roses, he often started getting injured due to their thorns. People visiting the garden, meanwhile, continued to praise the roses as they grew well under the new gardener's care. Everyone except the gardener was happy. The gardener went to the owner of the garden and asked to release him of this duty.
The owner replied, "See, you are the only one who is intimately attached to the roses and are hugely responsible for their awesome growth. The people w...
As I write this letter, you have now already spent one full day in my city (as per your mathematical calculations! :-) ). And here I am writing my last letter to you few hundred kilometres away from my city and you. For a change, I didn't develop any attachments with the place I spent last 4 days in as I had left my heart in my city to welcome you. He lay there in Delhi anticipating your arrival and I sat here waiting for the 4 days to end. Though my holidays officially end today and my work hours begin tomorrow, but never ever have I waited for a Monday like this. Though you will meet me at the fag end of the day in a not so lovely setting but hey, it's you who can make things lov...
As I write this letter, you are already breathing the air of my city, your eyes might be admiring the liveliness of my city and your mind probably might be busy painting thoughts of myriad hues. In your heart there might be a nervous beat or two of what tomorrow will bring to your life. You probably wouldn't understand how much I wanted to be there with you at this point of time, as I write this letter from a city away from my home. But hey, just a matter of one day before I'll bridge the gap. Just ONE day and we will meet!
I love you Ananya and take good care of yourself! :)
Just a Saturday and a Sunday left between us before we get to see each other on Monday. Though it has just been over a month since I came back from your place but the period away from you has been strange, to say the least. The moments we spent together have been etched in my mind and needless to say, were really special. I have always been a very private person and have always fiercely guarded my personal life but with you I shared so many incidents of my life which I had never shared with anyone before (even my parents) and believe me, I don't think I will ever share these things with anyone else in the future. I know you shared a lot of your hidden memories of the past with me t...
Today I will not be philosophising about a certain aspect of your life or our life. This, however, is not deliberate. This was just one of those days when I was unable to think beyond a particular moment. And that moment happened last month - 24th April - when I left your hometown and a bagful of happy moments and memories with you. Moments which I treasure till date and will always in the years to come.
Those 3 (Yes, they were 3 for me even if you always called them as 2!) days were the best I had spent away from my home. The sweet moments and sweet nothings we exchanged are now deeply embedded in my conscience. But it was 24th which showed me how life can be away from you and ...
A son once asked his parents how he will survive in this world when they are no longer around. They did not respond to him immediately.
Next day his father took him to a museum. There was this one section in which the advancement of cycles was depicted. The child saw a tricycle, then a bicycle and then at the end, he saw the oldest one in the line - a unicycle. He was about to move to the other section when his father called him.
Father: Son, you asked me a question yesterday. Today I will let you know the answer.
The father continued...
Father: Look at these different types of cycles. This one has 3 tyres, that has 2 and the one at the end has just one. But people can ride a...
~~~~Celebrating 2 months of 'our' existence ~~~~
Today's letter is not much on the usual literary/philosophical side but more on something which I have immensely treasured in the last 2 months - Your magical presence!
Looking back, I see it has just been 2 months of knowing and feeling you but honestly it feels like it has been a lifetime already.
From knowing each other's likes and dislikes
to knowing each other's ambitions.
From knowing each other's pain points
to feeling each other's smile and happiness.
From knowing each other's past
to imagining each other's future (including your irritating push on my marriage to a Punjabi girl!).
From planning a trip to each other...
In the midst of the dry and dusty terrains of Thar region, lay a quaint village. There were not more than 40 people living in it but still their living conditions were pitiable. The huts were made of mud and roofs were covered with straw to keep the interiors cool. An 8 yr-old boy, Ganga, lived in one of these huts and was the youngest member of the village. Rainfall was scarce in the Thar region due to which the village folks were always struggling to collect enough water for their daily needs. Ganga had this peculiar habit of collecting rain water and storing it in a big glass jar. Since rains were scarce, he barely managed to get a few drops in his jar. But he was determined in...
It was a calmer night outside but inside this quaint cottage on the hillside, were a star-crossed couple engaged in a heated argument.
Girl: You just don't care about me any more.
Boy: Why do you say that? I love you a lot.
Girl: It is very easy to say those words.
Boy: Which words?
Girl: Leave it. You don't even call me everyday.
Boy: I really want to, but...
Girl: What but?
Boy: Leave it. You won't understand.
Girl: Go away. I don't want to talk to you.
Girl: Leave now!
The boy slowly left her cottage and the girl went to sleep with a heavy heart and tears in her eyes. He didn't go far and thought to lay outside in the lush green meadows next to the cottage.
Have you a ever seen a tortoise? A 'beast' often teased and ridiculed for his lazy demeanour?
There is something about this lazy creature which we all can pick up. If you look closely, the lips of a tortoise are shaped in such a way it looks as if he is forever smiling. He had that face even when he was struggling to catch up with the rabbit in one of the most famous races of mankind! That teaches us to smile always whatever be the circumstances.
He carries a heavy shell on his back but still goes about his day as usual. This teaches us to never let the workload or pressure get over our mind and slow our body in response to it.
Whenever a tortoise senses a danger, instead of shrie...
Here's another little conversation between a mother and her daughter.
Girl: Mom, my friends always try to make me laugh when I am studying in the tuition class. I love their jokes but sadly this takes up my time and I lose out on my studies! :(
Mom: Come outside in the garden, my child.
She takes her outside and shows her a tap.
Mom: Look at this tap. If I turn it on, water will start coming out.
She opens the tap and the water starts flowing.
Mom: Now if I try to hinder the water flow I can easily do it as it is completely bare without any protection whatsoever.
She slaps the flow and tries to divert it using a wooden plank. The water starts flowing in a completely new direction ...
Ever wondered why our jawbones ache after a prolonged display of smile on our face?
Girl: Mom, Dad says that smiling is good for us.
Mom: Yes, that is true.
Girl: But then why does my jaws start aching after smiling too much and my face remains fine when I am crying?
Mom: The reason is simple, my child. The most valuable things of this world, those which are precious to mankind, always come at a higher price. That price might be monetary in nature or in terms of physical or mental effort. Whereas, things which are not liked or wanted by many come at almost no price or physical or mental efforts. Smile is one of the most precious thing with which the mankind has been blessed with, ...
A girl once asked her mother if she can move mountains with her mere thoughts...
Girl: I read in school that if we strive then we can actually move mountains with our thoughts. Is it true?
Mother: Well, it is true indeed.
Girl: How is that possible, Mom? I tried but failed.
Mother: Okay, come with me outside.
They went outside.
Mother: Look at those snow-capped peaks carefully and keep looking until I ask you to stop.
Mother (after 5 mins): Now move few steps to your right but keep your eyes on the mountains.
Girl: Okay, doing now.
Mother: What did you notice?
Girl: Wow, the mountains actually moved...to my left which is probably, their right.
Mother: Exactly, you moved...
We often come back home tired, sad and sometimes, angry. We throw ourselves on our bed in disappointment and kick off other stuff which might be otherwise peacefully lying on the bed. One such is the poor yet amazingly calm and peaceful, pillow. He waits the entire day for you to come back home and share some sweet nothings. A little hug will make his entire day's wait vanish. If you are sad, he will happily soak your tears without reducing his love and comfort for you one bit. But what we do in anger? We either keep him away from us or worse, throw him off the bed. Why? Did he ask for too much? He just wanted to feel your presence, celebrate your joys and soak your tears...was th...
In one of the city's most famous garden, grew a mango tree along with a sprawling grapevine. Most of the passers by used to stop over at the garden for a quick retreat. They often used to gorge on the delicious and juicy mangoes which pleased the mango tree. Over a period of time, the mango tree developed false pride and started to show off his might by deliberately growing his juiciest of mangoes on the branches closer to the ground so that the passers by could have easy access to them. The grapevine felt odd and thought to express his disappointment to his once best friend - the mango tree.
Grapevine: Hey buddy! What's up?
Mango tree: My mood!
G: Oh! What's down then?
M: Your po...
A jungle in Southern Region of Zimbabwe was known for the menace of a ferocious tiger who had made a lot of little and innocent animals his prey. In this jungle, came a cute squirrel couple to live. One day, the female squirrel went out to collect food and bumped into the tiger. He roared so loudly the entire jungle shrieked out of fear. He pounced upon the little squirrel but she was fast on her feet and escaped unhurt. She came back and narrated the entire incident to her husband.
Male squirrel: Why are you crying?
Female squirrel: He almost pounced upon me today but I managed to dodge him with my speed.
MS: So, will that help every time?
FS: I am scared after that incident. ...
There was a girl who used to ask her Man what best can he gift on her upcoming birthday. He often used to jokingly shirk off her question but the girl was adamant. She kept on asking until he gave up on his self-imposed silence.
Boy: Okay! So listen, girl. I will bring a Star here, right in front of your eyes.
Girl: Good joke that was!
Boy: No, it ain't a joke. Let the day come and I''ll give it to you.
Her birthday finally came.
Boy: Wishing you a very Happy Birthday! Here's your gift.
It was a square box. She opened it and found a mirror in it.
Girl: Is this your Star?
Boy: Yes, look closely. She is my star.
It was Parul's first day of the final year at the University. She got too overwhelmed with the studies and left for home early. She reached home and dashed towards her room. Sensing that something was not right, her mother went to her room.
Mother: Is everything okay, Parul's?
Parul started crying.
Parul: I can't handle this any more! The studies are getting too much for me to bear now.
Mother: Come here, little girl. Let me share an instance: Have you seen a mango tree laden with fruits? There are hundreds of mangoes at any given time on a grown-up tree but have you seen the tree falling due to the load? Never. He knows how to distribute the load evenly across his body by growi...
Today's story is about 2 friends who got stuck in a sparsely populated forest area and had no means to cross the river to reach over to the other side.
Girl 1: Oh God! Please save us! We are stuck in this disgusting situation where in front of us lies a wild river and behind, a wild forest!
Girl 2: Will you stop panicking?
G1: I can't help!
G2: Let me think about a solution.
The girl thought for few minutes.
G2: Do you have a pen and paper?
G1: Yes. Are you going to write a letter?
G2: Shut up. Just watch me.
The girl created 2 paper boats and added 2 paper flags to it with their names. She fine-tuned the boats design and left it in the river.
G1: This is a raging river. Why do you...
This story is about a girl who was often made fun of at her school due to her spectacles. Today was no different.
Mom: Why are you crying, Sanah?
Sanah (crying): They again made fun of my glasses.
Her mother took her to a nearby temple and sat a few metres away from the actual temple complex.
Mom: Wait here, Sanah.
Just then a luxurious car passed by and stopped just short of the temple. A bunch of poor kids, expecting some alms, ran towards it. A well-dressed man got off the car and shoo'd away the kids. He then took out a large basket of fruits and sweets and went inside the temple. He kept the basket near the temple idols and started praying.
Mom: You saw that, Sanah? This man ...
On a certain dark night, a girl and her mother lay together on the terrace of their house, both facing skywards.
Girl: Mom, Sam told me that those who die become a star. Which star is Dad here?
Mother: Sam was lying.
Girl: Lying? So where's dad then?
Mother: Keep your hand close to your heart.
Girl: Here? Then?
Mother: Do you feel something?
Girl: A knocking sound. What is it?
Mother: That's your dad knocking at the door of your heart. Won't you allow him in and ask to stay there forever?
Girl: Yes yes, I will!
**People who really love you don't ever go away from you for even a single moment. Their presence, physical or metaphysical, will always be there around you!**
There were 2 star-crossed lovers who never married, neither to each other nor to anyone else. They, however, remained attached to each other throughout their lives and beyond. Then time dawned upon their love story as the boy left for his heavenly abode followed by the girl, a few years later. The people who knew them best, got them buried next to each other. And then, one night at the cemetery, their first one:
Boy: You didn't leave me even after death! You are so lovely!
Girl: Shut up! I just wanted to spend some final moments with you. There's nothing lovely in it...I am selfish you see!
Boy: Yeah... whatever!
Girl: Don't dare say that 'whatever' to me.
Boy: Okay! But you are ...
Today you asked why I love you this much...
When my eyes open for the first time in a day...Good Morning is what I write to you!
When it closes for the last time in a day...Good Night is what I am writing to you!
In between, it's your well-being I am thinking of!
Coz you bring a smile to a face which had long forgotten that expression!
Coz your mere words bring air to my sails!
Coz your worries make me feel uncomfortable and I so want to share if not lessen/remove them!
Coz your delight is like daylight and your sadness a sky of thunder!
Coz I feel as if a void in my life was suddenly filled!
Coz I feel complete in your presence!
Coz your dreams seem more colourful and worth a...
It's over 40 degrees here in Delhi! On one such sultry day, 2 tourists were on a tour of Delhi's rich heritage and culture. Due to the excessive heat, they felt thirsty and worn out. One of them saw a poor roadside vendor selling little packets of water - he went and had a couple of them. The vendor smiled in return. The other tourist didn't drink and instead insulted his friend for having water from such a place. They went ahead but it was getting tougher for the tourist who didn't get water. He was getting agitated even as his friend was feeling refreshed. At last, he saw a posh cafe and bought a bottle of mineral water. The guy at the café didn't have loose change so the tourist...
It was Independence day and every single kid was busy in the ritual of kite-flying on their terraces. On one particular terrace, a boy was watching his brother fly his kites. It was not that he didn't knew how to fly them but he chose to watch his brother instead. Whenever his brother lost his kite in a sky fight, he would rush down and run in the direction where the kite went. He got the kite back every single time. His brother, noticing his weird act, asked "Why are you running after kites? I have plenty of them with me." His brother said, "Yes, you might have many kites but I only saw this one fly and fly high. I saw your efforts in making it reach there and I just wanted your e...
It was late night but this baby was just not ready to calm down forget sleep. He kept on crying loudly even as his Mom tried every trick in the bag to put him to sleep. She would feed him milk, sing a sweet song, put his favourite toys close to him but to no avail. The baby was just not ready to listen anything. At last, Mom decided to leave him alone on his bed. She kept a couple of pillows on his either side so that he does not fall off. As soon as she left him, he stopped crying and within few minutes, fell asleep!
Sometimes it is important to stop trying too hard to get something and instead, take a step or two back. The baby had got habitual of his Mom's presence and wanted to...
"Always Believe Something Wonderful is About To Happen"
This way, whenever it happens you will feel wonderful. And if it never happens, you atleast spent some time thinking about this wonderful thing and that, in itself, is wonderful.
Have a great day ahead and find your 'something' today. :)
Our lives can be easily compared to a dish being prepared in a pressure cooker.
A dish is only prepared when sufficient amount of water is added to the cooker. It finally cooks well under extreme pressure. Similarly, our mind is a pressure cooker and our thoughts and aspirations are like a dish. They only come out well if enough water (read: calmness and patience) is added to it. Without water a dish runs the risk of getting burnt or spoilt completely in the pressure cooker. Similarly, if we don't keep cool and calm in our minds, our thoughts run the risk of getting wayward and evil too.
So, the pressure in the cooker of our mind is good and healthy as long as we keep ourselves ...
Two dogs were strolling casually outside a company's head office when they saw two men smoking in a corner.
Dog 1: Hey, look there!
Dog 2: Where?
D1: There, in that corner (points to a place on his far right).
D1: Why are they emitting smoke? Have they turned into a factory chimney??
D2: LOL...chimneys are a lot leaner and far away from our habitation.
D1: Well :)
D2: Haha :D
Hope you are having a good day!!
