     Friends
     Those invaluable beings
     That one cannot
     Put a price tag on
     They are
     The quiet seas
     That calm our rough waters
     And the faith
     That warms us
     Like hot cocoa
     On those cold winter Sundays
     Friends
     Are the family we'd choose
     If we chose our families
     They are the ones
     We can't let go of
No matter the time or distance
     And never will.            JD

*Overshadowed*

My guilt for naught?
Not
By any means
Means
Much to release; to write
Right
Or not
Knots
That don't lessen
Lesson
To learn
Learn
To let go before the end
And
Guilt won't overshadow you
You
Can live in simplicity
Simplicity
Simplicity without guilt
Guilt.                    JD

An echo verse for the Poetry Olympics on Instagram
(Unlike many of the poetic forms we examine on this blog, echo verse has a pretty simple rule: Repeat the end syllable(s) of each line. No other rules.
There are two ways to do this: Repeat the ending syllable(s) at the end of the same line; or repeat the ending syllable(s) on its own line directly beneath each line)

     Sometimes
     Being lost in one's mind
     Is like having
     A room of one's own
     There is no one there
     To bother you
     But also
     There is no one
     There
     To bother you.              JD

I've been silent all these years
    Shedding far too many tears
Whilst hiding all of my fears
Away from those I hold dear
I need to see my way clear
    Of thoughts converging full gear
    To finally end all this
    With hopes "I" don't disappear.

                         He puffs his chest
                         Like an exaggerated pigeon
                         Strutting around
                         Like he owns the place
                         But his words and actions
                         Show us all
                         That he's just playing
                         A wicked game
Of 'my dad is better than yours'
Where there will be no winners
                          Just more division
As the cracks between us widen
                          And malevolence engulfs us.

     As much as
     I loved our tango
     And the story
     Your hands told
     You never allowed
     What we do in shadows
To be seen in the light
     And that
     Didn't work for me
     So I was forced
     To break our hold,
     Drop my rose,
     And leave the dance floor
     For good.

     A friend lost
     Or more so
     Taken from me
     By abstract words
     And fractured tales
     Of me getting caught
     In Charlotte's web

*Guilt*

The reflection she sees in her tea cup is that of a woman twice her age, not the one who once held the key to her future and ‘pushed the envelope’ every chance she got.  No longer does she see the woman who shot for the stars and lassoed the moon. Sadly, this transformation was just months in the making.

Now it seems as if every step she takes, she is swimming against the tide. It’s one step forward, then two steps back.  And, if that isn’t enough, physically, she feels as if someone has run her down in their car, then,  for fun, backed up, and done it again.  Yet, there are no scars on her body; there are no skid marks on the...
