An Idealist, A Visionaire and Un Bon Vivant!

The world is full of beautiful people; unique and precious, each of us are fine, worthy and wondrous beings. Every person has something meaningful to say in the conversation of life. Let people speak. Let people disagree. Communicate. Listen. Listening is the way. Listening is the beginning of all progress. Have high-respect, if not for your opponent, then for your own comportment and conduct as a good listener. And don't make the mistake of thinking that you have to agree with people and their beliefs to defend them from injustice. If you can't respect someone you disagree with, then you don't even know what respect means. As free as you allow others to be, such freedom you create for yourse...

Many of the great mastermind thinkers throughout history have known that we become our thoughts. It is important that when a situation moves into your life, which may cause you to worry, that you choose to exercise the discipline to not engage in the very destructive meditations of worry. Excessive worrying is a sign of an undisciplined mind. It is a form of weakness, recklessness, and self-indulgence in negativity, and it is very dangerous. The human mind is the most powerful instrument on earth. The occupations of your mind should be your primary concern. There are better things your mind could be doing; much more constructive things that a powerful instrument of creation such as your mind ...

No matter what you lost, or how you were hurt, there is no future for you in your painful memories. The past may have given you awareness, but it is not awareness. The past is real, but it is as ephemeral, and as unreal, and as unreachable, as any other illusion. Memories are illusions; echoes of the past. Memories can be a form of false consciousness; a place one lives to avoid living. As your past emerges in your mind, you vanish in the present. If you are not careful, your memories can imprison you. You must stop thinking about what you wish to repair from the past. You cannot heal memories, you can only heal yourself in the present. All your pain from your past, has already served you. Ke...

Sometimes we have trouble letting go of the past so that we can forgive ourselves. Finding inner-resolution can be even more complicated when the past we are trying to free ourselves from involves having hurt someone. At times, all of us have been the wrongdoers or have somehow been neglectful, which comes with its own unique suffering. This seems to be the mandate of the conscience: when we harm others we harm ourselves; when we help others we help ourselves. When we have harmed someone or disappointed them, they may be angry with us and it's natural for us to feel anguish over this. But don't have unreasonable or excessive guilt. Guilt can interfere with our desires to move forward, to heal...

Respect is the lifeblood of progress, and the safe harbor of humanity's great aspiration — that all people have human rights affording them unfettered access to liberty and justice. Respect is that great spirit of good, which creates the beautiful space giving all souls the simple room to breathe. Every blood-soaked patch of soil in the world came from the grotesque attempt to surreptitiously or overtly control others by imposing selfish will over the broad consensus desires for safety and respect, and by failing to recognize universal human commonality. Any act of violence creates resentment and resistance, because humans were meant to be free. This includes passive violence, which is ubiqui...

We live in a culture of violence. We have been trained by a culture of violence and we are all agents of passive violence. This is because all of our relationships are based on self-interest, discrimination and a perverse need for gain. The need for gain, and advantage over others, is one of the chief driving forces behind all human misery. We are always being forced to achieve some gain from others in order to meet our basic needs, or to vampirically feed our lifestyle excesses and greed. People have always had preoccupations with vampires because the concept has energetic roots in reality. The vampire is a cultural articulation of a creature or process we know exists in actuality, but we ca...

If you want to be successful at anything you do, it will help you to first be a successful human. Since human life is a social life, becoming a successful human means being there for other people. The greatest joys in life are found not only in what we do and feel, but also in our quiet hopes and labors for others. No time is better spent than that spent in the service of your fellow human beings. We are here to spend ourselves on others; for each person is a great treasure. Success doesn't just mean happiness, success means doing the right thing, which often involves sacrifice and pain, but ultimately leads to deeper feelings of fulfillment. The greatest happiness comes from feeling and expr...

People often say they just want peace and happiness. You hear it from people all the time, "I just want to be happy." But really, some of these people don't want to be happy; it's a flat-out lie or a self-delusion. If they wanted happiness, they would have it. The truth is, we have what we want already. I know you will be tempted to blame everything outside of yourself for your woes, but it just isn't true. Sure, it's true that there is ugliness "out there," but happiness is absolutely something available inside of you — and it's available right now. If you are waiting for things in your life to align themselves so you can be happy, then you are likely in for some serious DISAPPOINTMENT. Loo...

God, thank you. I know those words are never going to be enough, but thank you. Thank you for all the ways you have blessed me, for all wonderful people you’ve put in my life, for all the things you have given me, to strengthen me and bring light.

I know life won’t always feel this wonderful, but thank you for right now. And please help me to lean on you in the good and bad. Help me to know in all things, and on all days, you are my God.
Amen.

Ancient Nahuatl Blessing

“I release my parents from the feeling that they have already failed me.

I release my children from the need to bring pride to me; that they may write their own ways according to their hearts, that whispers all the time in their ears.

I release my partner from the obligation to complete myself.
I do not lack anything, I learn with all beings all the time.

I thank my grandparents and forefathers who have gathered so that I can breathe life today.

I release them from past failures and unfulfilled desires, aware that they have done their best to resolve their situations within the consciousness they had at that moment.
I honor you, I love you and I recognize you ...

2017 took a lot away, but it gave a lot, too.

For some, it was their last year here. All new memories of them ended, and dealing with their loss began. But the only reason you see the end as a tragedy is because the beginning and middle were so amazing. In time, the end will fade and the memories of all other days will strengthen and bring joy and gratitude for what was in place of tears for what won't be anymore. Acceptance takes time. Missing someone takes getting used to. But it will happen.

What you've been given in 2017 is an unveiling of more of yourself. A clarity and realization of who you are, what you want, and what no longer serves you in life.

You've been given opportunities, t...

A Reflection On Cultural Appropriation

DISCLAIMER: This is in NO way intended to offend the Beauties of Canada/Miss Universe Canada Organization and its members in any shape or form. This is merely an expression of my thoughts.

Back when I was involved with Miss Universe Canada, a big part of my duty as a creative/fashion director, was the 'styling' of the overall look of the delegates. It also helped that the national director trusted and was confident with my ideas and directions. It was a responsibility of mine to make sure that each candidate looked their utmost best. I was passionate about the position and thoroughly enjoyed the experience, and through this, I was able to apply ...

Of National Costumes and Identity

When one speaks of national identities, almost instantly I think of 'national costumes'. These are traditional garments worn by citizens of different nations all throughout the world.
As a child, I used to love, perhaps I still do, Walt Disney's "It's A Small World" song. I remember fondly playing it on my Fischer-Price music box. You know, the kind with the knob dial on the front that which you must wind-up to play the tune, and there was a window above the dial, that shows images while turning. Mine would show illustrated images of little citizens of the world in their traditional or national costumes.
From a very young age, I've always look ...
