My First Patient, My Teacher
You are dead,
And your name I do not know.
The avenues you walked down in life, I do not know, but I have touched the tired muscle fibres that carried you there.
The dreams you had for your life, I do not know, but I have chased the nerves to your brain that keep them secure.
The love you had in your heart, I do not know, but I have pictured the coursing blood that your heart pumped to your body.
The hands you warmly held in yours, I do not know, but I have flexed the strong fingers that went through 103 winters.
The burdens you carried on your shoulders, I do not know, but I have lacerated through the tension that you held there.
THE PRAYER OF ADAM
The story of Adam is of course well known to all of us. After Allah created Adam and told the Angels and Jinn to bow to him, Satan refused.
Fast forward to the expulsion of Adam, Eve, and Satan from Paradise after they ate from the tree, we learn about the first prayer ever made by a human as far as we know. It is indeed the first human prayer ever recorded.
Our Lord, we have wronged ourselves, and if You do not forgive us and have mercy upon us, we will surely be among the losers.
[Surat Al-A’raf: 23]
First and foremost, the fact that Adam immediately responded and prayed to Allah and asked for forgiveness, demonstrates why Adam is superior
to Satan. Adam ackno...
Abu Huraira reported Allah's Messenger ﷺ as saying: A strong believer is better and is more lovable to Allah than a weak believer, and there is good in everyone, but cherish that which gives you benefit in the Hereafter and seek help from Allah and do not lose heart, and if anything in the form of trouble comes to you, don't say: If I had not done that, it would not have happened so and so, but say: Allah did that what He had ordained to do and your "if" opens the gate for the Satan.
-Sahih Muslim, Book 46, Hadith 52
The Architects are Plotting
They send drones to scope the relief,
plan how much dynamite they need
to re-start this tired skyline,
translate road signs, rename rivers.
They arrive rather than return,
each home they plan a tomb for those
that hold keys to changed locks round necks.
The architects were efficient-
dug up a Jordanian crown*
which made all un-worked land a gift,
a grenade their orb, a ruler
their sceptre: coronation done.
They wore the crown, did not forge it.
The people here are just markers
on history pages written
by the ink splattered architects.
They scatter the squatters, who drift
from their plot or clump in tight packs
building toe to shoulder t...
Narrated Ibn 'Abbas: that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Love Allah for what He nourishes you with of His Blessings, love me due to the love of Allah, and love the people of my house due to love of me."
-Jami`at-Tirmidhi, Vol. 1, Book 46, Hadith 3789
The Journey to Mecca
By Him whose House the loving pilgrims visit,
Responding w/ ihram at the appointed limit,
Uncovering their heads in total humility
Before One to Whom faces bow in servility.
They exclaim in the valleys,
"We have responded to You -
All Praise is Yours, and Kingdom too!"
He invited, they answered, w/ love & pleasure;
When they called upon Him,
Nearer came the Divine treasure.
You see them on their mounts,
Hair dusty and disheveled,
Yet never more content,
Never happier have they felt;
Leaving homelands and families
Due to holy yearning,
Unmoved are they
By temptations of returning.
Through plains and valleys, from near & far,
Walking & riding,...
Abdullaah ibn ‘Umar reported that the Prophet ﷺ said: "There are no days greater in the sight of Allaah and in which righteous deeds are more beloved to Him than these ten days, so during this time recite a great deal of Tahleel ("La ilaaha ill-Allaah"), Takbeer (Allahu Akbar) and Tahmeed (Alhamdulillah)."
Al-Quran Chapter 97: Al-Qadr
"Surely, We have revealed this Quran in the night of Qadr (destiny). And what could make you understand what the night of Qadr is! The night of Qadr is better than one thousand months. The angels and the Spirit (Gabriel) come down, by the leave of their Rabb (Lord), with all Decrees. That night is the night of Peace, till the break of dawn."
-Chapter 95, Verses 1-5
This chapter was revealed in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. The theme of this chapter is to acquaint man with the value, worth and importance of the Quran.
The Night of Qadr has two meanings, both are implied here. First, it is the night during which destinies are decided. Second, the revelati...
Oh Allah make our faith beloved to us
And beautify it in our hearts
And make disbelief, defiance
And disobedience hated to us
And make us amongst those who are rightly guided.
It was narrated that Abu Hurairah said: "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'There has come to you Ramadan, a blessed month, which Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, has enjoined you to fast. In it the gates of heavens are opened and the gates of Hell are closed, and every devil is chained up. In it Allah has a night which is better than a thousand months; whoever is deprived of its goodness is indeed deprived."'
-Sunan an-Nasa'i, Book 22, Hadith 17
Imām ar-Raghib said:
Ramaḍān is taken from the word ramad which means that which is intensely or vehemently heated by the sun. And the word ramdhaa means the intense heat of the sun. The Arabs used to say about the sheep that they were burned (ramidat) while they were grazing under the scorching heat of the sun to the extent that their livers became damaged. Ramaḍān was named such because it burns the sins of the believers.
Imām al-Zamarkhshari wrote:
‘’When they changed the names of the months from the ancient language, they named them according to the seasons in which they fell, and this month fell in the days of intense heat and that is why it was named Ramaḍān’’.
Imām Qurtubi narrates:...
Narrated Jabir bin `Abdullah: The Prophet ﷺ used to stand by a stem of a date-palm tree while delivering a sermon. When the pulpit was placed for him we heard that stem crying like a pregnant she-camel till the Prophet ﷺ got down from the pulpit and placed his hand over it.
- Sahih Bukhari Vol 2, Book 11, Hadith 42.
"Learn to be quiet just as you learn to talk, because if talking guides you, being quiet protects you. By being quiet, you attain two characteristics: you are able to take knowledge from those more knowledgeable than you and you are able to repel the ignorance of those more ignorant than you."
It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Do not curse the wind, for it is from the mercy of Allah, bringing Rahmah (i.e., rain and breezes), or destruction. But ask Allah for its goodness, and seek refuge with Allah from its evil."
-Susan Ibn Majah Vol. 5, Book 33, Hadith 3727
"O my Dear Lord, give me the patience my mother has. I have seen her cry tears, I have seen her heart break into million pieces yet her heart stays so pure and clean. I have seen people put her down, make her feel worthless yet she makes them feel like they are worthy every minute of her time. Give me her patience, make me her strength and give her every happiness in this world. Her kindness is immense, her love is unbelievable."
Narrated `Aisha: Whenever Allah's Messenger ﷺ paid a visit to a patient, or a patient was brought to him, he used to invoke Allah, saying, "Take away the disease, O the Lord of the people! Cure him as You are the One Who cures. There is no cure but Yours, a cure that leaves no disease."
-Sahih al-Bukhari, Vol.7, Book 75, Hadith 36
But why is it
that you doubt
of a sincere prayer?
that you already look
for entire forests
when it was only
that you plated a tree?
No matter how run-down you feel,
No matter how worn-out you've become,
No matter how little energy you have,
Turn to Allah.
Run to Him with the fragments
of your damaged & broken soul,
run to Him with the little
you feel is left of you,
For it is only
in the remembrance of Allah,
in your time with the lord,
that your soul will find its peace.
They said that
the most beautiful things
cannot be seen with eyes,
but with the heart.
this must be the reason why
Allah is invisible to us
in this worldly life.
the beauty of The Highest
is beyond limits.
My tongue tastes a bit
Whenever I utter
I am in awe
the way He says
'It is Allah'
It is Allah,
who has the keys to the heavens & the earth
It is Allah,
no leaf falls, but that He isn't aware of it
It is Allah,
the knower of your happiness & your grief.
It is Allah,
your All-Caring God,
Abdullah bin Mas'ud narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Abide by truthfulness. For indeed truthfulness leads to righteousness. And indeed righteousness leads to Paradise. A man continues telling the truth and trying hard to tell the truth until he is recorded with Allah as a truthful person. Refrain from falsehood. For indeed falsehood leads to wickedness, and wickedness leads to the Fire. A slave of Allah continues lying and trying hard to lie, until he is recorded with Allah as a liar."
-Jami`at-Tirmidhi, Vol. 4, Book 27, Hadith 77
Abu Umamah Sudaiy bin 'Ajlan Al-Bahili (R.A) reported: The Prophet ﷺ said: "Nothing is dearer to Allah than two drops and two marks: A drop of tears shed out of fear of Allah and a drop of blood shed in Allah's way. Regarding the two marks, they are: Marks left in the Cause of Allah and a mark left in observing one of the obligatory act of worship of Allah, the Exalted".
Ibn 'Abbas narrated: "I was behind the Prophet ﷺ one day when he said: 'O boy! I will teach you a statement: Be mindful of Allah and He will protect you. Be mindful of Allah and you will find Him before you. When you ask, ask Allah, and when you seek aid, seek Allah's aid. Know that if the entire creation were to gather together to do something to benefit you- you would never get any benefit except that Allah had written for you. And if they were to gather to do something to harm you- you would never be harmed except that Allah had written for you. The pens are lifted and the pages are dried.'"
-Jami` at-Tirmidhi, Vol. 4, Book 37, Hadith 2706
If you notice that Allah continues to bless an individual with that which he loves of this world, while that person persists to indulge in sin, know that this is leading to his destruction.
Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said,
"When the power or authority comes in the hands of unfit persons, then wait for the Hour (Doomsday)."
Five times a day
my heart enwraps itself
like a lotus flower
when the Athan* illuminates.
Five times a day
the call to prayer enters my mind,
so that I may remember
where the light comes from.
Five times a day
then call to rescue resonates
so that I am always reminded,
what waters the roots of my soul.
*Athan- call to prayer
Abu Huraira reported Allah's Messenger ﷺ as saying: Charity does not in any way decrease the wealth and the servant who forgives Allah adds to his respect, and the one who shows humility Allah elevates him in the estimation of the people.
-Muslim Book 32, Hadith 6264
On the authority of Abu Hurayrah RA, who said that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: The gates of Paradise will be opened on Mondays and on Thursdays, and every servant who associates nothing with Allah will be forgiven, except for the man who has a grudge against his brother. it will be said: Delay these two until they are reconciled; delay these two until they are reconciled.
-Hadith Qudsi 20
You must go through a period
to be able to fill yourself
with Allah's love.
Certainly, He is Al-Muqit,
The Nourisher of Hearts.
Let these words
seep into your mind:
A true believer has
a heart like a diamond
whose glance radiates light
throughout his body
when you see him
And do you know why?
It's because Al-Hakim, The Judge
has blessed him for concealing
his good deeds.
