                                              TRANSCENDENCE

                                      On chilly foggy nights
                                      As I trace lonely roads
                         unadorned, except for shapeless trees
                                        and eerie silences,
                                        I half wait for you
                                                   To come
                                           Stand before me
                                            And re-kindle
                                      Whatever was kept off
                                                 till now.

Sleepless

That sleep leaves me barren on unforeseeable whispers,

doesn’t bother me

That anxiety attacks on mid nights like this,

doesn’t really bother me

You know that tingly feeling

of fear and uncertainty

creeps up at the back of my throat

and travels through the gut like a vile poison,

and it doesn’t bother me either

What does, is that I calm fiery heartbeats

by promising myself that two fortnights later

I would be in your arms

and the wetness of your lips on my drought skin

would make it easier to pass nights as these.

What really bothers me is that

I promised myself not to fall in love, ever, not even remotely,

And look, where we are.

How?

How do you do that?

Undress me one layer at a time

And kiss that void deep into

the pits of my stomach with those eyes

And how do you tangle and detangle

locked away abysses of passion in me

effortlessly, like strands of hair

snarled in your fingers

How do you fit with ease,

into my arms like puzzle pieces?

We were strangers,

after all...

                                                                   Freckle

                                                       I was a virgin canvas
                                                   your lips couldn't stain

I had waterfalls inside my chest
                                                your eyes couldn't contain

                                                         I ached in places
                                                your hands couldn't touch

                                                        I spoke of autumns
                                              words couldn't adorn much

                                                  A NOBODY

The way your eyes smirk at my existence

and heavy breaths sublime under hallucinating lights

The rifts of your wet lips, abhorrent and unawaiting

                                  On mine sometimes, sometimes gone

                                     A lover's sigh, and poet's respite,

                                                          You.

The splash of aquamarine to my gloomy canvases.

Stars

The night I stared at the heavenward blue,

The night my heart had wept for you.

Stranded on that sooty black

A pair of stars up and high

I knew I loved, I remember those eyes

But who, at all was the answer to my cries

The glitter his eyes had cast in glee

Her words had stuck like dust on me.

Shady ghosts arrived to veil

Till i finally caught the trail...

She was the answers to all my prayers

The fingers that gnawed deep into my layers

She was the dawn to my deathly nights

She was the star, even from long afar

that drenched me in an eternal light.

A Morning

It was in that morning.
At the crack of dawn, she rose up from bed unable to bear the inconsequential lying anymore. Sleep had barren her like rain does to a land too devoted in it's sunny rendezvous. She climbed upto the rooftop. The sun was still an infantile globoid of vermillion gracing the dark sky as if it were the parting of an Indian woman's hair. Lights still glowed on aloof distant buildings visible despite the fog. She saw a pigeon bossing around another and ravens that had risen from their slumber to the joy of hovering amidst the clouds. But no sign of human could be traced. No cool winds swept past. No coos or barks or mews were heard save for an isolated crow's mel...

It's only now that I realise,
   Decades of mourning will cease
                   no cries.

Love and disaster sewn in one,
The eternal inferno I was destined
                   to burn.

Damaged was I,a little more now
       Revived regrets into piles,
                  and how!

Like dead petunias on the sea afloat,
      Like blandness of a solitary
                 piano note,

I fell apart from the world to endure
           The burden of a soul,
                   impure.

A beam of sunlight enters through my window, at dawn , exposing the stark nakedness of my dark flesh against the white sheets that bear the testimony to last night's mishap.

The streak of light rejuvenates me and a flick of grin colours my face. With you, some days might end with a sigh and some others with a cry. But at dawn when I feel your warm breath against my neck and your fingers reconstructing the hieroglyphs of destiny etched on my palm, I know for sure, you are the one with whom I will walk off into the sunset.

          The Time Of Our Lives

                          The selfish clock tocks
                                     in it's own quest
                            But why should time,
                                           for me, rest?
                                  Steeled body and
                                             a soul inert
                                    Albeit the world
              conspires to shatter the heart
Sorrow brims up
like poison in my veins
Oh life, let loose, let loose,
your wanton reins...

ECLIPSE

Stars call out to me
As I lay on a bed of fireflies
at night
Smoking a cigarette,
burning in reminiscences
I say, "I have been
missing my moon"
"But she is gone
tonight",
they retort,
"Radiating aura in
someone else's arms"
So I lay awake till dawn
Musing the eclipse
between me
and the world
everytime we kissed.

                       Stargazing

          Naked, onto the virgin's bed,
         She said,  "You look beautiful"
               And I conformed, shy
Of the loving, or the praise
           And flinched in a moment
Pulling away, almost like a temptress
             Only to draw her closer
She took me, held in the hazel brown
             hypnotism of her eyes
And then flicked through my mind,
                    the toddler me
in love with the solitary star
                      heavenward.

              The Escapist

With her dreams cradled on eyelids
     Sleepless nights have been spent.
With her crooning, I held inward
        A sober whiskey drained
      Between sonnets to her eyes,
       and musings of her touch
The heart had been defiant on evenings
         I had seen too much
Of shadows I quest and dreams devour
My heart races through the night
And love lulls me to a soothing shore
I wake under the sultry sun
          burning me to rust
And then I find myself running again,
         For escape, I must.

5.38 am
Mid dawn and end of night, now, people musing the last few hours of their sleep and here I am: famished, forbidden, lonely and awake in your reminiscence. The missing of your voice, your blatant smile on the nooks of my neck fit like puzzle pieces, the fingery touch gnawing into my skin as if to reach out to the soul. Your eyes that always, always implode disasters deep down the pit of my stomach. You and me. I and you. Us, quietly melded into one on sinister cradles through time and beyond conformation. The longing for your proximity and the impracticality of the same, all, at this imperfect hour, bring me down to dust. The heartache resonates more and more into my existence.

           The melody onto your chest
                        that plays,
Muddy rains on the window as the
                      evening slays.
Your voice echo to the tune of my
                    laboured breath
               And aside, on the floor,
                    our masks layeth
You show your scars and corpses
                       from the past
I lay my fears to rest
                             at last
My body, you worship in your

                     sweet embrace

Then I, wet with desires and forlorn
To forgotten hymns from yesterday,
And drenching praises of Gods from the sky,
In our secret penchant for heavy breaths and sweaty palms
Through blurred glasses, webs of drab hair
Through rumbles of ache and background noises,
Us,  Torn apart by distances
And sewn, in hems of a major conspiracy-
LOVE

I saw
The burden of a dragon fly
Lift its wings in air
In sheer elation of despair

The burden of dragon fly
Of ruby sunsets through flecks of leaves
In sheer elation of despair
Silhouettes of blurry words against the corpse of a silent city

Of ruby sunsets through flecks of leaves
I saw his eyes shimmer diamonds
Silhouttes of blurry words against the corpse of a silent city
Slipped into our blind tunnels of memory

I saw his eyes shimmer diamonds
Then in a tide came those words
Slipped into our blind tunnels of memory
And sprouted in rubbles of hope
.
.
.
Our phoenix love.

If ever, your heart races back to the garden of forbidden love , ask the molten moonlight, for it will echo my endless rantings to the radiance of your eyes.

If ever, time heals the wounds she gave you, ask the immortal leaves, for they will lament the endless sorrows they've embraced like dewdrops on their palms.

If ever memories remind you of the smile on my lips, or the tears in my eyes at the sight of you ,oh do not, my dear, forget to ask the fragrant breeze if it was magic? Or madness?

For it has, in deed,  witnessed the blood I spilt on my paper dying for you...

People were not undesirable in her life unless she realised that baring her soul to the strangers she hemmed in the confines of her love never did any good to her. It always came back to square one.

So at long last, she saw the light of the dark truth... strangers remained strangers. It was only a matter of when.

Year after year,  like everyday, tonight also she looked for one familiar face in the crowd, one phone call from a friend, one letter from someone who cared,  one hand she could squeeze between hers, one smile to reflect upon, one shoulder to share the great edifice of her sorrows...

... And then like every other night, she made peace with her hopes; succumbed onto a damp pillow and dampened desires.
