WRITING TOPIC  |  SOMEDAY I'LL LOVE

Frank O’Hara’s famous line “Someday I’ll love Frank O’Hara” has ignited a chain of responses from contemporary poets started by Roger Reeves and Ocean Vuong.

Write a poem about yourself that is also about your place in the world. Let its title be, “Someday I’ll Love (Insert Your Full Name)”.

Be bold. Think big. Say something you’ve been afraid to say about yourself and your identity.

Use the tag, "love".

WRITING TOPIC  |  QUOTE OF THE WEEK

“What in your life is calling you? When all the noise is silenced, the meetings adjourned, the lists laid aside, and the wild iris blooms by itself in the dark forest, what still pulls on your soul? In the silence between your heartbeats hides a summons, do you hear it? Name it, if you must, or leave it forever nameless, but why pretend it is not there?” — The Terma Collective

This is one of the most inspiring quotes I have ever come across. We all have our passions something in our life that pushes us to be more than who we are. But often we turn a deaf ear to this call. ‘What’ and ‘If’ are two words, non-threatening by themselves, but put together...

WE REMEMBER

On September 11, 2001, 19 militants associated with the Islamic extremist group al-Qaeda hijacked four airplanes and carried out suicide attacks against targets in the United States. Two of the planes were flown into the twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, a third plane hit the Pentagon just outside Washington, D.C., and the fourth plane crashed in a field in Pennsylvania. Almost 3,000 people were killed during the 9/11 terrorist attacks, which triggered major U.S. initiatives to combat terrorism and defined the presidency of George W. Bush.

WRITING TOPIC  |  LOVE

We’ve all been blinded by the blanket of emotions that comes from falling down the precipice of union into love. While we only have one word for it, the ancient Greeks in their pursuit of wisdom and self-understanding, found seven different varieties of love that we all experience at some point:

EROS (EROTIC LOVE)
MANIA (OBSESSIVE LOVE)
STORGE (FAMILIAR LOVE)
LUDUS (PLAYFUL LOVE)
PRAGMA (ENDURING LOVE)
PHILAUTIA (SELF LOVE)
PHILIA (AFFECTIONATE LOVE)
AGAPE (SELFLESS LOVE)

Choose one as your topic and use it as the title of your poem or short story.

Tag your letter, "love".

Welcome new lettrs users,

As The Head Lettrist of lettrs I wish you a warm welcome. Like hot coffee in the morning, you'll find that lettrs is the investment you make when you want a moment for yourself.

The thing about words is that they reward you even when you don't realize it. Someone else reads the letter you wrote and it inspires them to reach for more, or your words on the page become therapy lifting a large burden off your shoulders.

Be indelible. Write lettrs.

Sincerely,
-the head lettrist

WRITING TOPIC | PICK UP LINES

Let's talk about something so cliché, so indulgent, yet so interesting: Pick Up Lines.

Staring longingly, stomach churning, palms sweating, and heart racing it takes undeniable courage to go up to a complete stranger and pronounce your attraction to them without risking total embarrassment. But why pick up lines?

Let's explore this subject by writing letters with the funniest pick up lines you've heard; at you, said by you, or told to you and let's see as a community what words are being used as weapons in the battlefield of love.

Tag your letter "PickUpLines".

Enjoy,

WRITING TOPIC | TAKE OVER TOMORROW

lettrists, let's get real.

Tomorrow is the day you'll clean your room, do the dishes, study for that Algebra test, work on your history project, start exercising, and finally memorize the entire theme song to Dawson's Creek... ok maybe not the last one. But "tomorrow" is that day.

Well let's make it TODAY.

Write about all the things you've been putting off till "tomorrow" and tell us why you'll get them done today. Tag your letter "TOT."

Because tomorrow is just another excuse not to make today the day!

THE BATTLE OF LUCK & FORTUNE

Do you ascribe to the idea that you make your own luck? Are you a hard-nosed Type-A personality that doesn't need help from the cosmic forces above?

Maybe you believe that it is better to be lucky than good? That for some people, good fortune falls in their lap, it doesn't have to be so black & white, you can fall somewhere in between.

In honor of St. Patrick's Day, write an open letter discussing your thoughts on the battle of luck and fortune. Tell us what forces you believe to be at play if any at all. Tag your letter "luck."

Hello again,

sorry for the late reply. Thank you for getting back to me about my suggestion. I would absolutely love if we made it a topic for longer than a day / for the whole week or however long you can keep it going depending on how many people respond.
so when I was reading your letter you actually gave me an idea for what to call it... "State Of Sensitivity" putting both of our minds together!!! What do you think?!

Let me know what you will need me to do to help get this started / going and thank you again for this opportunity!!

WRITE LIKE SEUSS

If you knew trees lived life like dogs that growl,
I'd bet you'd know why wind makes them howl.
No snarl for branch, it's more like a shake,
If a tree could bark,
Well it already does, for goodness sake.

Hi there,

For a while now, I've been wanting to further my "writing prowess" so to speak but I won't lie, I am struggling a little. I wanted to deviate away from the poetry I am doing and maybe compose a short story, with your help if you don't mind. If I have a really thought provoking subject, I know it would go a long way to helping me get to that point.

Also in terms of writing techniques and style, it would be great if you could point me in the direction of formats I could play around with.

I understand you're very busy, but I do think a collaboration of sorts would be fantastic to do.

Many thanks,
TPE

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE

lettrs land,

We are starting a new feed to ignite friendly debate. The title of this feed "What Is The Difference," prompts you to take concepts that on the surface seem different, but in depth, are possibly similar... or not.

To kick things off, what is the difference between a lover and someone you love?

Write an open letter responding to this question and start your letter with "The difference is..." or "The difference is not..." I leave that up to you.

Tag your letter "WTD" to populate the feed.

Happy writing!

The difference is that with the lover alone is wanting, it is only attraction, chemistry, just a game, a hobby, a physical pleasure instead someone you love is physical and emotional pleasure, is passion, are feelings involved, it hurts , happy, hurt, we think of that person, with the lover does not hurt, only sexually satisfied, there are only few thoughts, that's the difference.

You choose that you want to feel, you want to have.
