I’ll write for you a poem
That you can read from time to time
A tale of how we could be
In a world where you are mine
We’d travel near and far, just us
Walking city blocks together
Our feet could take us anywhere
And our hands would still be tethered
The starlight could be blinding
As the sunshine fades away
Just tell me what to write
And I’ll create anything you say
I could write us into forever
If you let my mind run wild
I’d write us onto the tops of mountains
Where we’d play just like a child
I’d write us into all the wonders
That I’ve ever dreamt of seeing
But the saddest part of writing
Is that I can’t write you into being

I’ll paint for you a picture
Of a place where you can go
Where the sound of laughter echoes
In a field where daisies grow
A place where dreams are caught up
Inside nets stitched out of hope
Where the grassy hills are playful
Where they laugh with every slope
I’ll write for you a version
Of a very different life
Where you can sit amongst your problems
And laugh away your strife
A world where there is magic
Where dreams fall from the sky
Where you’ll never have to worry
That your dreams will pass you by
Just ask me, if you’re yearning
And I’ll pick up my pen
My words can take you places
That you have never been

I am the heart that you come home to
I am the voice that soothes your cries
I am the comfort you can lean on
I am the light behind your eyes

What words will you use
To describe what you saw
Beautiful? Wondrous?
Can the words describe it at all
The picture’s enough
The one in your mind
That remembers the peaks
Of the high alpine
The solace is special
It’s worth the hike in
Your lungs may ache
But your mouth holds a grin
The trail winds on
And you ask yourself, why
Why do you attempt to explain
What only your heart can describe

Thank you for the clarity
Thank you for the tears
Thank you for the laughs we shared
Thank you for those years
I’m stronger now because of you
I’m full of strength and joy
I have a new perspective now
That I owe to you sweet boy
Such a gift, the two of us
And even though we’re through
I hope you know deep in your heart
Who I’ve become because of you
I hope you would be pleased to hear
That even though we had to part
The song you strummed inside my chest
Still echoes in my heart

It’s the mountains up high
It’s the meadows below
It’s the birds that sing
It’s the rivers that flow
It’s my heart pulled home
It’s the world left behind
It’s an alpine lake
It’s the solace I find
It’s a winding stream
It’s the alpine snow
It’s a bear and her cubs
It’s a late evening glow
It’s the reason I came
It’s the reason I’ll stay
It’s the pull of the mountains
It’s where my heart wants to play

“Walk toward me,” said the ocean
I dipped my big toe in
“A little farther,” said the waves
“We’ll take you for a spin”
The tide is coming closer
The seashells wash away
It’s like the waves are playing
They wish that I would stay
A part of me is scared though
Of what’s hidden in the sea
What’s unknown is frightening
I’ll only wade up to my knees
But just because I’m frightened
It doesn’t mean that I don’t know
That the ocean’s full of wonder
That the waves will help me grow

My feet were moving slowly
As I walked alone that night
The chilled wind whipped my hair about
So I pulled my hood up tight
The path to me seemed endless
I barely kept my angst at bay
But from what the others told me
I was supposed to feel this way
They said the path would wind on
Toward a door built just for me
On the other side of which
Would be an image I could see
Supposedly my deepest dream
What my heart’s most yearning for
So I continued on, that chilly night
In search of my own door
And slowly I inched toward it
Approaching it at last
A sense of warmth washed over me
My angst was in the past
I turned the knob, expecting you
But someone else stood in your place
I saw myself in perf...

The problem with your beauty
Is that it’s buried way too deep
The only time you free it
Is when you’re dreaming
Fast asleep

The stars are shining bright tonight
They’re shining just for you
Your cheeks are turning rosy now
Your eyes reflect the starlight too
The wind is blowing gently now
It yearns to wisp away your stresses
The snow is glittering proudly now
Each step you take it softly depresses
The moonlight lights the trail up
As you move along your way
The air is almost numbing now
Yet you feel compelled to stay
There’s something you can feel inside
A truth about to surface
The stars will share their knowing now
My dear, you’re full of purpose

The pain will hold on gently
As you move throughout your day
You’ll try to shake it softly
But quickly learn it wants to stay
It lingers in the corner
It follows you around
Just when you think you’ve lost it
You learn no solace can be found
So here’s a trick, I’ve learned a few
For me and pain, we’re good old friends
And pain’s afraid of love, you see
Because love, it always mends
So open up your eyes a bit
Inhale deep and strong
Look for the twinkle of loves presence
That surrounds you all day long
It could be here, it could be there
A thought, a smile, a gift
Look for the love in every moment
And your pain will start to shift
Just start small, and why not now
Find something good to th...

If you hold tight just the right amount
Your fingers won’t slip through
I can guide you through this life of ours
So you can feel the stillness too
You don’t have to be so scared, sweet one
I can take the lead sometimes
I can walk us toward the wildest mountains
Where we’ll play among the pines
Just say the word; I’ll take your hand
Let the stillness overcome you
Our hearts are right at home together
At this we are not new
So see my smile, and take my hand
Be sure to hold on just enough
We’ll walk through life together, babe
Together, life’s not so tough

If you let go just a little bit
You’ll feel the stress slip through
You’re heart will soften gently
And your eyes will smile too
No need to tense up, darling
There’s nothing here to fear
The world is full of love, you’ll see
The ease you seek is near
Just lighten up, a little bit
There’s no reason for your doubt
The shape your mouth is used to making
Doesn’t have to be a pout
The world is waiting for you
Be who you really are
Soften your resistance
And your love will take you far

Where are you, I asked gently
As I kept my eyes closed tight
I’m waiting for your presence
On this solitary night
The moon is clear and blinding
And the stars are even brighter
Yet I sit here still and silent
The grasps of stress grip even tighter
I fill my lungs with midnight air
Refreshment grows inside me
Its quite alright, I’ll wait for you
I’ve got nowhere else to be
I’d wait a thousand lifetimes
To see you just once more
But for now this lonely night will do
Until I get what I wait for

You are a dancing beam of
starlight
That shoots up to the moon
Your heart is made of stardust
That settles every day at noon
But because you’re well aware of this
You’ve got a special trick in store
You know the dust will settle
If you close your heart up anymore
So every day at 12 o’clock
You take a little break
You reflect on who you really are
Before your heart begins to ache
You remember that you’re stardust
That you’re bigger that this world
And then the settling stardust in your heart
Twinkles wondrously as it swirls

Are you a champion, darling
Is it you atop that throne
Are your words empowering
Or do you speak in monotone
Are you a queen, my darling
Do you reign over your life
Do you search for limitations
Or do you shrug away all strife
Are you a goddess, sweetheart
Who holds her chin up high
Who smiles with a twinkle
That lights up both those eyes
That twinkle’s full of wonder
Don’t ever let it fade
This world needs who you are at heart
Be proud of how you’re made

I am a mountain poet
But what does that mean
It means I think as I walk
As I hop over streams
A bird flies above
And I think of a line
The trail curves on
And I think of a rhyme
The words come so gently
As I look at the trees
They flow onto paper
As I rest on my knees
I have to stop often
So the words don’t escape
But the trail keeps on winding
And the day grows so late
The wind whips my hair
And I find new inspiration
The words that I hear are my own type of salvation
But I mustn’t forget
That the words wouldn’t flow
If it weren’t for the mountains
That teach me to grow
So I tuck my pen in my hair
I put my notebook away
And I submit to the mountains
Who are waiting to...

I’m changing, said the season
My time has come and past
The leaves are falling gently
The warm air will not last
The sun’s no longer scalding
It’s the raindrops you’ll feel now
The mountain air grows crisper
Trees proudly change their wardrobes with a bow
The animals move slowly
The fish in rivers even slower
The air will bite your lungs soon
As the sun sinks even lower
This change is good, awakening
It shows that nature does not stall
It’s the shifting of a season
Into a richness we call fall
